Barney Willow’s life couldn’t get any worse. He’s weedy, with sticky-out ears. Horrible Gavin Needle loves tormenting him – Barney has no idea why. And headteacher-from-hell Miss Whipmire seems determined to make every second of Barney’s existence a complete misery! Worst of all, Dad has been missing for almost a year, and there’s no sign of him ever coming home.
Barney just wants to escape. To find another life. To be a cat, for example. A quiet, lazy cat. Things would be so much easier – right?
I found it a thrilling adventure!
(spoiler alert) I loved it from when you
meet Barney Willow to the tragic school report
from him turning into a cat to him finding his dad

I found it quite dull at first but as you read through it starts
to liven up.At one point in the story it was quite emotional but I still love the book.I recomend it for adults or children

I’m glad it livened up Amy and you didn’t give up. It sounds like Barney Willow experiences a lot of different emotions. I’m looking forward to reading it!
At Cheselbourne village school we are just beginning to read “To Be A Cat”. So far we are enjoying it and are looking forward to finding out what happens to Barney. Eliana.
it has sertinly got better miss whipmire is so evil for triying to kill barney for laughing at a cat! but still it is one veary good book! my club is amazing
We have just started reading the book. So far we are all enjoying it because it is building up tension, making us think what is going to happen next…like a mystery! We are scared of the head teacher Ms Whipmire! Luckily our head teacher is not mean like that.
I think it is scary sometimes because when the head teacher tells the boy to go to her office and he really gets told of. But sometimes it funny like what they are saying. I has just started reading this book and I am already enjoying my self
We have read a few more chapters and are still eagerly waiting for Barney to become a cat! We are wondering if the cat hanging around Barney is his dad…and if they will swap places or he will join his dad as a cat!
This is becoming more of a mystery. Dun, dun, dun….!
We think the book is interesting and full of mystery with some scary parts. Spoiler alert- we think Barney looks better as a cat. We can’t put this book down and keep wanting to read more and more! Will Barney ever find is father…?
